US Soccer Mandate for the National "D" License (please read below before asking for any modifications or personal accommodations in obtaining the National "D" License).

August 1, 2008

Re: U.S. Soccer National “D” License

Dear Director of Coaching:

The U.S. Soccer National “D” License course has been revised and updated to incorporate the methodology changes made to the “C” License course in January 2006.  The “D” License course now includes more time for practice coaching, expanded methodology, technique and elementary tactics, revised instructor field sessions and field topics, and new grading policies. The course also incorporates U.S. Soccer’s Best Practices for Soccer booklet.

All “D” license courses must incorporate the changes outlined in this memo. Courses that do not adhere to the new curriculum and utilize the updated “D” License manual will not be recognized by U.S. Soccer.

  The National Youth License, a U.S. Soccer course, focuses upon the nature of children and the adjustments adults must make to coach them. The course curriculum covers the ages of 4-12 years old. Each day of the course, the focus is upon one of the traditional soccer age groups. Each day, children of the appropriate age group are brought in so that the candidates are able to work with them in a practice training session. The course combines both classroom (theory) and field (practical) sessions. It is ideal for anyone hoping to become a better and more effective coach.
